About Malton in Bloom
A thriving community gardening campaign to make Malton look BLOOMING marvellous throughout the year!
Malton is a historic, vibrant, and pretty market town at the heart of North Yorkshire, boasting a central slightly inclining Market Place, split into two sections around the parish church, all circled by elegant shops and buildings, with large linear streets beyond - all this lends itself to an extensive array of summer planting in beds, baskets and planters.
Malton in Bloom has been established since 2017 winning SILVER GILT at Yorkshire in Bloom in its inaugral year. Polarising efforts and introducing some new ideas in 2018, it excelled as it won GOLD, Best in Category, and Best Commercial Entry Supporting the Community, a totally unexpected yet deserved, triple victory.
2019 was another great year for Malton in Bloom as it won GOLD and Best in Category.
Over 1,600 communities around the UK enter each year, participating in their local region's "in Bloom" campaign. From these regional competitions, roughly 80 communities are selected to enter the National Finals of RHS Britain in Bloom.
The awards are based on the RHS's medal standards of Gold, Silver Gilt, Silver and Bronze and the winner is judged to have most successfully met the rigorous judging criteria. Judging at the regional stage takes place around June/July.
Of course, floral displays play an important part in the contest, but the title is also assessed on how all sectors of the local community are managing their local environment.
